It’s a “Love Story,” and Taylor Swift has said yes!
She and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are engaged, with the couple announcing the news on social media in a joint post on Tuesday with a carousel of photos of the floral-focused proposal.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the post was captioned.
It’s unclear when exactly the proposal happened, but there’s speculation that it was this month since Kelce is sporting a shorter hairstyle and his hair was much longer before buzzing it off before the start of training camp in late July.
The post was set to Swift’s fan-favorite song “So High School” from her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Kelce made a surprise on-stage appearance on The Eras Tour in June 2024 during this album’s set list.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, shared the couple’spost on his Instagram Stories with three red hearts. “Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love,” Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, wrote in a post on Instagram Stories, adding a white heart and crying-happy face emojis. “Just so happy for these two.”
The news broke in the middle of the Chiefs’ media availability, though after head coach Andy Reid had departed. That left Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna to field questions about his teammate’s engagement.
“Man, it’s incredible,” Danna said, a few minutes after the news raced across social media. “I was caught off guard but you know, great for them. … That’s a blessing. Any time you find that type of joy, blessing, love — that’s a beautiful thing.”
The engagement comes nearly two years after the pair first made their relationship public in September 2023.
The couple has not yet released the details behind the one-of-a-kind, vintage-inspired ring, but it’s rumored to be an Old Mine Brilliant Cut handcrafted by jeweler Kindred Lubeck, who worked with Kelce to design the sparkler, per TMZ. The elongated antique cushion-cut diamond, with an estimated price of $550,000, is approximately eight carats and set in 18k yellow gold, according to Brides. That’s no problem for Kelce, who makes a little over $1 million per game based on his current contract, which paid him approximately $17.125 million for the 2024 season.
Now, fans wait patiently to learn more about when Kelce and Swift, both 35, will tie the knot.
