Duke’s Cooper Flagg on Saturday became just the fourth freshman to win the Wooden Award as the most outstanding men’s college basketball player. Flagg edged Auburn’s Johni Broome, whereas Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr., Alabama’s Mark Sears and Purdue’s Braden Smith have been the opposite finalists. Flagg had been thought-about the favourite for the award in the course of the second half of the season, when he emerged as essentially the most constantly dominant participant within the sport in main Duke to the ACC regular-season and convention event championships and this system’s first Ultimate 4 look since Mike Krzyzewski retired. He received each ACC Participant of the 12 months and Rookie of the 12 months and is the clear-cut chief to be chosen No. 1 in June’s NBA draft.
